No Skips: Fela Kuti - Gentleman

Share

Hi everyone,

No Skips is growing, and will have a second home at High Note in Northcote. We'll still show up at The Moat in the CBD on the first Monday of the month, and now also the second Tuesday of the month at The Moat. We're so thankful for your ongoing support, and for telling your friends about us. To celebrate this partnership with High Note, we're welcoming guest selector, and local musician, Nkechi Anele, in September.

Nkechi, who is also the lead vocalist for Melbourne-based band Owelu Dreamhouse, has selected Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti's 1973 afrobeat album, Gentleman, for us to listen to together. For bookings, follow this link.

We will also listen to select tracks from Owelu Dreamhouse's debut album, which you can listen to here.

This Sunday, August 30th, we're throwing our first all-ages day party! We'll be listening to The Beatles' 1966 album, Revolver, guest curated by local musician Arlo. The event will also feature an exclusive listen to Melbourne band The Messy Checkers' debut album, Checkmate. It drops October 1st, and you can pre-order a copy here.

The party will run from 1pm to 4pm at Ultra Culture in Brunswick. It's free for friends aged 10 and under — follow this link to book.

Over at First Chapter, we're hosting our first ever Book Bar this Monday, August 31st. It's basically a book swap party where you bring a book (or two) you're willing to let go of, and trade it for one someone else brings along. The night will feature readings from friends of First Chapter, along with light refreshments, a complimentary drink on arrival, and giveaways.

Tickets can be purchased via this link, and use the code FIRSTCHAPTER10 for a discount.

See you soon,

Santilla
